Adult Classes 2018-2019
Ballet classes are a great way for adults to get and stay in shape, reduce stress, exercise their brain as well as their body and meet new friends in a relaxed and cordial environment. This redesigned program is for adults of all ages and experience levels. Additional classes have been scheduled and an entry level class has been added for beginners. Classes are held throughout the school year from September through June with the exception of holiday breaks.
“It’s not only the benefit of physical movement that improves health and well being for older dancers. There’s a lot of research showing that the social dimension is almost as important as the physical dimension. Engagement with others in the community has as many health benefits in terms of mental well being as the physical benefits of keeping moving in later life.” (Susan Venn, Co-director, Centre for Research on Ageing, Surrey University.)
Whether or not you have danced ballet before, you will be inspired by Magan Lee’s personal experience.
“When I walked into my first ballet class last year, after many years away, I had no idea what I would find. What I found was… wonderful like-minded people, new challenges, a humbling yet fulfilling practice and a piece of myself I had lost. It’s never too late and you’re never too old to find what truly lights you up. I’m so blessed to have been reconnected to my heart and soul and to have had the opportunity to perform again this year.”
Adult dancers may be invited by Miss Ellen to take the Royal Academy of Dance Examination.
Class sizes are small and every student receives the attention they require. Modifications are offered for those with any aches or prior injuries. The last exercise of every class is reverence, which usually includes bows, curtsies, and ports de bras, and is a way of celebrating ballet’s traditions of elegance and respect.
Adult Ballet – Beginner
Proper Ballet posture and core muscular development are essential outcomes for students taking this class. Flexibility and fluidity of movement are gained as students develop technique moving to inspiring music. Strength, stamina and confidence acquired in this class will propel your desire to progress into more challenging technique and movement patterns.
Wednesdays 11am-12 pm, Studio 2
Adult Ballet – Intermediate
The fundamentals of posture, core development, flexibility and fluidity are reinforced as students progress through a full, classical ballet barre and gracefully move to the center floor to challenge their balance and coordination with centre practice exercises. The class culminates with a series of more challenging petite enchainments to further stimulate strength, stamina, ease of movement, memory and confidence.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-11:30 am, Studio 1
